The only way AIDS survives is by terrorizing people with unfounded fears. Fear that sex -- the act of giving life and love -- will cause death. Fear that every potential partner is a potential killer. Fear that having sex outside the parameters of monogamous, missionary-position intercourse within the confines of marriage will lead to the destruction of the human race. Yes, fear is the mind killer and AIDS fear kills not only the mind but also the body and spirit.

AIDS fear is everywhere we look. In movies, on TV shows, on the radio and broadcast through advertising in gay media, on billboards and in retail establishments that promote the latest AIDS beg-a-thon. While this propaganda is ostensibly broadcast to "end AIDS" or to "find a cure," its real effect is to keep AIDS on our minds and terror in our hearts.

Reject AIDS propaganda. When you hear it on TV, the radio or in movies -- scream at it to stop. When you come across it in magazines -- destroy it. When you are assaulted by it from billboards or bus shelters -- deface it. And when you happen upon those glossy cardboard flats promoting the latest AIDS walk-a-thon, dance-a-thon, bike-a-thon, this-a-thon and that-a-thon -- rip them to pieces on the spot. Politely tell the managers of these retail establishments where you find such terror devices to keep AIDS hysteria out of where you shop. If they refuse, tell them you hope their business burns to the ground.
